Location: Open Road to Omu
On the afternoon of Friday the 14th from about 2:40 to 3:40 I held a session with Ashley, Norah, and a player that Ashley recruited from her Game Design class, Donovan. He played an elven Ranger named Sauriel, specializing in ranged weaponry.
Casamir and Suga’s battle with the sea hags had not been concluded from last session, and so while I set Donovan up with the Player’s Handbook (so that he could pick his spells and add the last finishing touches to his character) I played through the rest of the battle with Ashley and Norah. With liberal assistance from the cleric Sullesh and the Emerald Enclave scouts, Suga and Casamir defeated the sea hags promptly.
After the battle, Sullesh approached Casamir and remarked on the Fighter’s skill with two-handed weapons; proclaiming that he had no use for it, Sullesh gifted Casamir with silver maul named Smite-Light. Casamir received this because after losing his original weapons he needed a replacement, and Ashley and I could not resist the pun. Additionally, Casamir told the Emerald Enclave party why he was in Chult, summarizing the plot of the story. Suga decided that this quest was a worthy one and that she could afford to embark on this while searching for the murderer she was chasing, after some initial hostility as she questioned whether Casamir had killed her sibling. Casamir didn’t remember killing any gold Dragonborn lately, and so the two Fighters departed together in the direction of Omu.
Sauriel the wood elf found the party soon after they left the coast, and upon hearing the story from Casamir, she as well agreed to come to Omu with Suga and Casamir. At this point the party was about 14 days from Omu, and to speed the travel along I instigated another Skill Challenge, this time requiring either 3 successes or 3 failures. Overall the party accrued 3 successes and 2 failures, the most notable of these being Casamir’s failed Performance check to raise the morale of the party and Suga’s successful weather prediction.
Upon entering Omu via the river that had flooded the portion of the city, Casamir took the lead in exploring the city, heading with a sense of false confidence (i.e. a low Wisdom roll) toward the shrine of Papazotl the eblis, one of the nine Spirit Gods of Omu. Casamir rolled high on a History check to read the motto of the Spirit God carved into the shrine’s entrance in the language of Old Omuan: “Papazotl teaches us to bow before no one.” Continuing into the semi-flooded shrine, the party stumbled upon 4 crocodiles and their mother, a Giant crocodile. Casamir, in an attempt to avoid battle, offered the nearest crocodile some of the magical nuts that he’d found during the Skill Challenge, but failed the subsequent Animal Handling Check and initiated combat.
After two rounds of combat, we had reached our time limit for the session, and so the encounter with the crocodiles will be completed the next time that we meet. If possible, I will have the entire party meet up in Omu because with my Executive Dungeon Master Power I think that Makenna and Meagan are close enough that time-skip travel is acceptable.
